What is Revit Modelling?

Revit is a BIM (Building Information Modelling) software which includes complex design and collaboration for architectural design, MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing), structural engineering and construction. Its powerful tools let you use the intelligent model-based process to plan, design, construct and manage buildings and infrastructure. This breadth of functionality has helped Revit modelling garner support and adoption by architects, engineers, designers and contractors.

The Benefits of 3D Revit Modelling on Building Design

Revit has transformed the way that building professionals communicate and manage modelling workflow, which has made it an evolutionary improvement on traditional CAD. This is due to Revit’s ability to excel at these several key functions and for all sectors of the building industry to collaboratively work at the same time on the same project.

Design Versatility

Revit is much more than 3D CAD. Users can manipulate projects from different views, including:

  • Structural plans
  • Floor plans
  • Elevation perspectives
  • Section views
  • Perspective and orthographic 3D views

These views help inform personnel from creation, all the way to implementation. Users are able to render projects mid-workflow, producing realistic views and previewing the different building products that go into the design.

Project Collaboration

Revit modelling allows the facilitation and contribution from various members on a single project. Whether Revit models are linked together via BIM 360 or work is shared across a LAN (local area network), users are able to interact, annotate and test the performance of a single model.

Parametric Data

Built into Revit modelling is the ability to add parameters to specific items in a project. All of this information can be used by Revit to automatically and efficiently create schedules, allowing designers to eliminate repetitive or simple tasks and spend more time on essential aspects of design.

Parametric data provides easy integration with construction documents like product specifications. Because construction projects often operate on strict deadlines, having accessible data in the same place is key to time-saving and better design.

FAQs

How much does Revit modelling cost?

All projects vary from the size of the properties to the extent of what we can include within the model. Please contact us to discuss your project and scope.

Is Revit better than AutoCAD?

Unlike AutoCAD, Revit allows all project data to be stored in a single project file, permitting users to work on the same project file and merge changes with every save. All changes in Revit are coordinated across the entire project, so a change in one place (view) is a simultaneous change in all views.

Do I need to know AutoCAD to learn Revit?

If you're already familiar with AutoCAD, it may be easier for you to learn some of the modelling aspects of Revit. However long it takes to learn, Revit is considered an industry standard.

Are BIM and Revit the same thing?

No, building information modelling is the process of 3D modelling whilst Revit is the software that enables the creation of a 3D model. Although we use Revit to create our BIM ready 3D models, other programs exist and we can output file types compatible with them.

Do architects like Revit?

Yes, but it is also popular among interior designers and engineers as it is a great tool for complex projects, due to its functionality and collaborative capabilities.

Which is the best version of Revit?

For the BIM community, Revit 2022 offers more workflow solutions such as better route analysis, improvements to generative design and phased parameters in a view filter.

Our Promise

  • We promise to lay an accurate foundation of your digital project with an existing phase BIM ready Revit model.

  • In conjunction with our 3D Laser Scanning services, we examine the highly accurate point cloud of your site to reverse engineer buildings and land, producing digital twins of reality.  We have a humble in-house team with over 10+ years of experience, committed to creating the best, bespoke BIM models tailored to your requirements.

  • Using state-of-the-art equipment, we realise the importance of providing an accurate and intelligent BIM of a plot of land or building to a design team. If the initial existing phase of the BIM is constructed properly, it can pay for itself many times over throughout the life of a project.

  • At Fosse Surveying, we have a great understanding of the importance of BIM (Building Information Modelling) in the Construction and Design Industries. BIM allows for greater intelligence to be extracted and injected into a project than a traditional 2D drawing would. As well as a super-accurate 3D model, your traditional 2D Plans, Sections and Elevations can still easily be exported to ensure consistent and reliable data.
